GETTING STARTED

These step-by-step instructions are designed to help you get your website up and running quickly. We recommend that you take the time to read this section to get a better understanding of how our system works, and to enable you to utilize all the services and features we offer.

1. Review Your "Access INFO" e-mail

After placing your order, we will process and setup your Web hosting account. We will send you an "Access INFO" e-mail which will contain all the information for login, FTP, e-Mail etc. Save this e-mail as it has your username and password, which you will need from time to time.

2. Domain Names

  • New Domain
If you obtained a new domain name through Nextwebhosting, we will register the domain name on your behalf the very same day. Your domain name will be fully active within 48-72 hours after the registration. Once it is active, you will be able to access your website by the domain name on your browser. In the mean time, you can access your website with the temporary URL (which will be your IP address) until your domain name is registered. You can find the temporary URL in the Access INFO e-mail.

  • Transferred Domain
If you already have a domain name and are transferring it to Nextwebhosting, the transfer process can take up to two weeks depending on your current domain registrar.

If you already own a domain name, you will need to transfer it to Nextwebhosting's DNS numbers before you can access your website using your domain name. Depending on whom your domain name is registered with, the transfer processes are different.

    Networksolutions:
If your domain name is registered with Networksolutions we will contact them. Networksolutions will send an email to the administrative contact of your domain name. The administrative contact must reply back acknowledging the transfer. The new setting takes effect in 48-72 hours and your domain name will work.

    Other Registrars:
If your domain name was registered somewhere else, you would need to contact them directly and point your domain name to our DNS numbers. Most Registrars have a control panel where you can login and administer your domain.

When you purchased your domain name, you were given a username and password. All you need to do is to login to your account and point your domain name to Nextwebhosting's DNS.

    Primary Server Hostname:           ns.namesv.com
    Primary Server Netaddress:         216.19.65.2
    Secondary Server Hostname:      ns2.namesv.com
    Secondary Server Netaddress:   216.19.64.254

If you have any problems, please contact transfer@nextwebhosting.com .

3. Propagation of your domain name (new customers)

Before you can utilize all of Nextwebhosting's services and features (Email, FrontPage, Website, Stats, etc..), your domain name must be pointed to our DNS numbers and propagated. Propagation is the time it takes for all the internet service providers around the world to update their information internally.
If you are a new customer, this usually takes 24-48 hours from your setup date.

4. Account Information

  • IP address
This number represents the server address where you will upload your web files. This number is essentially the same as your domain name. You can type either in your browser and you will see your web site.

  • Username
This is usually a combination of numbers and letters. You will need this as part of your log in information to administer your web files and e-mail accounts. Please do not try to erase or change it.

  • Password
This is usually a combination of numbers and letters. You will need this as part of your log in information to administer your web files and e-mail accounts. Please do not try to erase or change it.

5. Uploading to your website

There are different ways of uploading your files. You can use FTP to upload your files to the server or if you have FrontPage, you can publish your website with it. There are many other programs you can use such as Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive etc.

  • Uploading your files with FTP

There are many programs that will perform this function. However, we recommend using WS_FTP. This program is available for download for free from our server:

    &nbsp Win 3.1: &nbsp ws_ftp16.exe
    &nbsp Win 95/98/NT: &nbspws_ftp32.exe
    &nbsp Macintosh: &nbspFetch_3.0.3.hqx

Make sure you download the WINZIP program. You will need it to open the FTP program before you can install it to your hard drive.

Once you are connected to the Internet:

    1. Open your FTP program.
    2. Now enter your Host Name in the Host Name/Address box.
    3. Set host type on automatic detect
    4. Enter your User ID, and deselect "Anonymous".

    11. Select the file or files you want to upload and click on the arrow that points to the right side. You should get a confirmation of transfer, and if successful, you can check by typing your domain name or IP address into your browser.

Note: The first page of your site must be labeled "index.html, index.asp, "

  • Uploading your files with Microsoft FrontPage

Note: Transferring your FrontPage web via an FTP program can result in corruption of those files, especially those files using web bot. Use FrontPage import command to transfer Frontpage web files.

Using the extensions or "Web Bot" with your web site is fully supported by Elosoft. If you are using the web bot, make sure you use the publish command to upload to the server. If you try to FTP those files that use the web bot, the files may become corrupted and the effectiveness of web bot will be hindered. If you are using FrontPage to create a site without the bot, you can still use the publish command.
